Pasture, Rangeland & Forage

Pasture, Rangeland & Forage

Pasture, Rangeland & Forage is a plan of insurance that insures against a decline in an index value that is based on the long-term historical average precipitation for a grid and index interval (two month span). (Insures against lack of rainfall for perennial grazing or haying acres.)

  • Utilizes National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Climate Prediction Center gridded and interpolated precipitation data.
  • November 15 is the last day to purchase PRF for the next year.
  • PRF does not measure, capture, or utilize the actual crop production of any producer or any of the actual crop production within a grid. Does not cover other perils such as flood, fire, and hail.
  • Losses paid when actual rainfall data falls below insured’s guarantee.

Annual Forage Rainfall

Annual Forage is the same basic plan as Prairie Rangeland Forage, except it covers crops planted for livestock feed/fodder.  The intended use would include but not limited to grazing, haying, grazing/haying, grain/grazing, green chop, grazing/green chop, or silage.

Crops include: Alfalfa, Barley, Beans, Beets, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Buckwheat, Chicory, Clover, Corn (field, sweet, popcorn), Grass, Kochia/Prostrata, Kohlrabi, Lentils, Lespedeza, Millet, Mixed Forage, Oats Peanuts, Peas, Perennial Peanuts, Rapini, Rye, Sorghum (Dual Purpose, Grain, Non-grain), Soybeans, Spelt, Sugar Beets, Teff, Triticale, Turnips, Vetch, Wheat, Woodland/Native Understory.

The crop cannot be planted into an established grass or legume; and must be located on insurable acreage in the county, and listed on the application accepted by the AIP.

Annual forage can be planted and insured in any growing season unless prevented in the Special Provisions. The same acreage cannot be planted and insured in consecutive growing seasons.

Annual Forage has 4 different growing seasons.
